When we are face to face with death at a young age, we tend to look at life differently. We develop a perspective that can see beyond the surface and propaganda.

Sometimes that can come off as detached and cynical. We have to work at nurturing the softer side and balance out using our heart and mind, while staying empathic and open minded.

Our world is full of division and derision. We have to do our part to reverse this.

We also need to try to work together to reverse decades, if not centuries, of greed and the need to control others by dividing and pitting one against each other for the sake of greed, power and a money-hungry group of people.

Instead, we should help each other to coexist peacefully, regardless of background and beliefs.

“The purpose of propaganda is to make one set of people forget that other sets of people are humans.” – Aldous Huxley

Throughout history, there have been many articles, books, documentaries and films warning us of the path we humans have been on…

Some songs that provide insights on this:
“Us and Them” by Pink Floyd
“Crime of the Century” by Supertramp
“Driven to Tears” by The Police
“Right in two” by Tool

Don’t blindly follow the path without looking beyond the surface with an open mind. Never place blame on others for the road you are on. It’s your own asphalt.

When faced with a tough decision, it is easy to confuse fear for intuition. https://eksperts.net/when-faced-with-a-tough-decision-it-is-easy-to-confuse-fear-for-intuition/ https://eksperts.net/when-faced-with-a-tough-decision-it-is-easy-to-confuse-fear-for-intuition/#respond Wed, 10 Jan 2024 16:00:00 +0000 https://eksperts.net/?p=1763

When faced with a tough decision, it is easy to confuse fear for intuition.

When trying to find answers to a problem they are already concerned about, many people confuse intuition with fear. But if you’re already worried about a situation, you’ll project your fear onto everything else around you.

Intuition is the ability to understand something without conscious reasoning.

· Reading between the lines and detecting what others are thinking or feeling before they express it.

· A flash of insight or a great idea that seems to come out of previous experience and knowledge.

· Getting a pit in your stomach when you need to make a decision.

Fear often seems like pushing energy, as if you want to avoid disappointment, scorn, or rejection. Your motive is to avoid being punished or an outcast. Fear in your body feels like fast, frenzied, disturbed energy.

Intuition, on the other hand, feels like pulling energy—as if you’re being drawn to your best interests, even if it means taking a risk. There’s optimism, and perhaps even underlying excitement.

Signs of a Reliable Intuition

  1. It conveys facts neutrally and unemotionally.
  2. It feels right in your gut.
  3. It has a compassionate and affirming tone.
  4. It gives crisp and clear impressions that are “seen” first, then felt.
  5. It conveys a detached sensation, like you’re in a theater watching a movie.

Signs of an Irrational Fear

  1. It is highly charged with emotions.
  2. It has cruel, demeaning, or delusional content.
  3. It lacks a sense of certainty or accuracy.
  4. It reflects on prior psychological scars.
  5. It has diminished centeredness and perspectives.

The more you identify these signs and focus on your decision making process the more fluid and easier it gets.

What are your challenges when you are making important decisions?

Why am I repurposing the same image from my last post?… https://eksperts.net/why-am-i-repurposing-the-same-image-from-my-last-post/ https://eksperts.net/why-am-i-repurposing-the-same-image-from-my-last-post/#respond Fri, 05 Jan 2024 19:58:15 +0000 https://eksperts.net/?p=1759

Why am I repurposing the same image from my last post?…

Mainly to make a point that everything is perspective. It’s all about how one looks at things, with an open mind and history/background.

You see, I am not sure why the person in this picture was doing that and I cannot ask them.

We should always keep an open mind and not quickly judge and react without trying to see things from various perspectives to try to come to an understanding. Even if things seem like they are going against our beliefs and knowledge.

Put yourself in place of the other person.

Think about different scenarios that happened to get to that point.

Prior experiences and what options did they have to choose from to get through things.

Others involved that interfered, guided/influenced.

They have enough autonomy to make those choices or were they restricted by others, financially, experience or self-sabotage.

They believe in Karma and how do they process to get through it depends on if that belief is superficial and learned behavior or willing to do the work to understand and get through it.

They have a history of relying on others to make or influence their decision.

They do not want to be accountable.

They lack the skill and experience to dissect and work through it and need help.

They fear failure or facing challenges or like to take shortcuts.

They were incorrectly sold a bunch of goods that really did not solve the core problem.

Maybe they are delaying it because they are dealing with another challenge.

They are so used to these challenges that this is their normal and do not know any better.

They struggle through it and blame others.

Throw money at it and take shortcuts without truly figuring it out and solving it long term.

They have seen and have been through something similar before and understand and know the process and take appropriate actions.

Here’s a post hoping to shed some light.
Pun intended… 😏

If you cannot spend time finding lessons in failures, then all you have left is continued looping of failures.
Like the old Armenian proverb: “Even the donkey learns not to fall into the same pothole twice.”

Don’t wallow in the failure.
Keep pushing yourself forward.
No one else is going to do it for you.
Embrace it and keep going and dissecting it.
Try to develop a rhythm and keep chipping away at it.
However, do not rush out of the failure by focusing on a quick lesson or shortcut.
Sometimes we find ourselves in the same mistake because there was more than one* lesson to learn.

Here are some of my additional thoughts on this performance, and a few takeaways…

I watched this performance again. Sam’s generosity and being brave to create this moment with those heartfelt lyrics and soothing melody. He asked for the audience to be quiet so his dad could hear him and kudos to everyone in the audience to respect that and provide that to Sam. In addition, he also asked to bring the house lights down and asked the audience to hold up their torches/lights. Beautiful, connected moment.

The metaphor is so poignant and powerful.  A perfect example of how one light can provide a bright spot, but everyone together can light up a large venue. Even the world.  So please keep in mind the power you have as an individual. Thank you to Sam, the audience, the stage crew, and the production crew for banding together to create such an amazing experience.

A few takeaways for those of you who like bullet points:

  1. Push yourself out of your comfort zone.
  2. Ask for what you want and need.
  3. Reveal parts of yourself that can help others.
  4. Be in the moment.
  5. Let others into your moment and shine together.
  6. Let others have their moment and help them shine.
  7. Being vulnerable is not a weakness. It helps others relate and connect.
  8. Do not be afraid to be yourself. We are more alike than not.

These apply to both personal and professional teams or groups of people. Do not ever think you are alone or cannot make a difference.  WE need to band together and make this world a brighter place.

I recently watched Sam Tompkins’ latest live performance of his song Hero, which he recently uploaded. It is such a beautiful, raw and emotional performance. Link is in the comments. It made me think about how some people struggle to get through the holiday season.

For some people, mental health issues such as depression and suicide are a daily battle. Just because they have survived before does not imply, they do not require assistance and support. So please keep that in mind during this holiday season.

Those of you who are going through this and somehow happen to come across this post, you are not alone, despite how it may seem. Reach out and, more importantly, let others in. You are not weak, or you are bothering people. There’s a reason you are still here. You may potentially be someone else’s hero just by existing. You’ve got this.

Hi. Quickly before Hrair comes back!

I’m number 27… oh! no! 26! And I will be popping in and out anytime I can within Hrair’s posts so see you soon.  In the meantime, here’s a quick short story:

There are these two young fish swimming along and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them and says “Morning, boys. How’s the water?” And the two young fish swim on for a bit, and then eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes “What the hell is water?”

The point of the fish story is merely that the most obvious, important realities are often the ones that are hardest to see and talk about.

The Dark Side of the Moon https://eksperts.net/the-dark-side-of-the-moon/ https://eksperts.net/the-dark-side-of-the-moon/#comments Tue, 01 Jun 2021 03:13:25 +0000 https://eksperts.net/?p=1101

This is not one of my favorite albums in the Pink Floyd catalog. It is in my top 5 though. I also think it is an important piece in the history of modern music. By modern I mean after the mid-1960s. It is for many, the crown jewel in Pink Floy’s catalog. This is why I wanted to write why and how it was and still is to this day relevant. I wrote multiple versions of this article over the past few months and they all wound up a bit too long. In this version, I will try not to go into the details of each song, lyrics, musical arrangements, recording, and mixing techniques that were pushing the boundaries of the early 1970s.

The band started recording it in 1972 when their most iconic lineup was at their most productive. They were pushing boundaries and experimenting; making use of cutting-edge technologies at the time. Like synthesizers, tape loops, and multi-track recording.  The engineering was eventually taken over by Alan Parson. One of the greatest to ever work a studio console. Even the artwork is near perfection, created by the legends at Hypnosis. On top of all of this, the album is a high-concept lyrical and musical masterpiece that delves into everything that makes up human life.

Upon release, Dark Side of the Moon was immediately met with commercial and critical success.  It topped the Billboard album chart and stayed there for an incredible 741 weeks. That’s 14 years. Taking all this into account, it’s no surprise that Dark Side of the Moon is often lauded by fans and critics alike as one of the greatest albums ever recorded.

The album starts with a short instrumental Speak to Me that kicks off the album with a heartbeat It’s a simple touch but it instantly gets you to the humanity that is at the core of Dark Side of the Moon. This album is at least in the broadest sense an album about life. It’s about the stresses and struggles that make human existence what it is. It’s about all the noise that constantly surrounds us and about trying to cut through that noise to find the truth, beauty, and meaning, and all of these things begin from the same place. From being thrust into the world and greeting it with a heartbeat and a breath. It lays the foundation and universal starting point and that heartbeat will come full circle in the finale. As I mentioned above, in this version I will not go into each of the songs to keep this article focus more on how relevant it was and still is today.

I will list the album tracks and a short description of it

  1. Speak to Me (birth and preview of what is to come with snippets of music from each of the rest of the songs))
  2. Breathe (adolescence and growing up)
  3. On the Run (Working and them touring and traveling and the pressures to record the next album while touring)
  4. Time (the challenges of day to day life and how time just flies by)
  5. The Great Gig in the Sky (This is intended to be a representation of their ultimate goal to have the greatest performance/show on their tour and in relation to the rest of us, our greatest product, result, and accomplishment. They had intended to write lyrics to it but decided not to because of how well the backup singer performed when they were putting the musical parts together)
  6. Money (Self-explanatory. They were being pressured by the record company to create more records regardless of what the band was going through)
  7. Us and Them (How modern life has inherently created us and them, whether it’s countries, religions, working-class, education, culture, background, skin color)
  8. Any Color You Like (An instrumental that the band was jamming during one of their shows that they really enjoyed playing, Also an obscure reference that one of their stagehands said that they can have any color stage background you like as long as it’s black.)
  9. Brain Damage (The impact of modern life on all of us if we are not able to work through these challenges)
  10. Eclipse (the end of the album and metaphorically and within the album concept. It also has references and lyrics from the previous songs culminating to a heartbeat ending.)

They recorded these songs between their touring schedules, which meant a week here and there in the studio (Abbey Road), and tweaking the songs during their live performances to save money and studio time, Realize that at the time everything was recorded to tape in a studio. They created the loops and extra sounds to make the songs on the album be seamless and connected. One of the other items as they put a microphone in one of the other rooms and asked crews and others in the studio to go in one at a time and say whatever they felt like saying and dealing with. Some are blended into the songs so you need a good pair of headphones to be able to discern. Towards the end of the last sone (Eclipse), one of them says: “There is no dark side of the moon. The moon is all dark”. For me, this is referring to modern life and its impact on Mental health. Implying that, just like the moon, life can be all dark, we just have to find a way to reflect light, just like the moon, and look for the positive in things. Similar to the album cover art, where the prism changing a thin stream of white light into a rainbow, try to take any little light and make your life more colorful.

A little trivia question. One of those people who went into the room with the microphone was one of the members of The Beatles. However, it did not make the final cut. Hmmm… Who could that be? 🙂
