Communications: What is your “Pilaf”?

As a little kid, the first food word/name I learned was “pilaf” so, for a while, whenever anyone asked what food I wanted, I would say pilaf. Needless to say, I ate a lot of pilaf until I learned more food words/names.  This also made me realize, at an early age, the importance of choosing the correct words.

Why am I writing about this? Well, there are times when we all use words and know what they mean to us. However, we cannot be sure the same word means the same to the person we are talking to. We tend to use words we have heard many times and think we can use them in the same way and in other similar contexts. We tend to think these should be very obvious. Conversely, It is also important the other person make sure they understand what the intention is and why a given word is being used to make sure they interpreting correctly as intended.
