When faced with a tough decision, it is easy to confuse fear for intuition.
When trying to find answers to a problem they are already concerned about, many people confuse intuition with fear. But if you’re already worried about a situation, you’ll project your fear onto everything else around you.
Intuition is the ability to understand something without conscious reasoning.
· Reading between the lines and detecting what others are thinking or feeling before they express it.
· A flash of insight or a great idea that seems to come out of previous experience and knowledge.
· Getting a pit in your stomach when you need to make a decision.
Fear often seems like pushing energy, as if you want to avoid disappointment, scorn, or rejection. Your motive is to avoid being punished or an outcast. Fear in your body feels like fast, frenzied, disturbed energy.
Intuition, on the other hand, feels like pulling energy—as if you’re being drawn to your best interests, even if it means taking a risk. There’s optimism, and perhaps even underlying excitement.
Signs of a Reliable Intuition
- It conveys facts neutrally and unemotionally.
- It feels right in your gut.
- It has a compassionate and affirming tone.
- It gives crisp and clear impressions that are “seen” first, then felt.
- It conveys a detached sensation, like you’re in a theater watching a movie.
Signs of an Irrational Fear
- It is highly charged with emotions.
- It has cruel, demeaning, or delusional content.
- It lacks a sense of certainty or accuracy.
- It reflects on prior psychological scars.
- It has diminished centeredness and perspectives.
The more you identify these signs and focus on your decision making process the more fluid and easier it gets.
